ABCDE-menetelmän hyödyntäminen akuutin potilaan tutkimisessa Oulaisten kotihoidossa

There are researches which have pointed out that before lifelessness there are changes in consciousness, breathing and in blood circulation. Changes can occur hours before lifelessness. There has been research of changes in vital functions before lifelessness from the patient documents in Oulu university hospital. Also in the thesis they have researched nurses’ reactions and recordings in changes of vital functions. They found out that there were lacks in reactions and recording. We co-operated with home care of Oulainen in this thesis. Our objective was to research the knowledge of home care personnel in the measuring, evaluating and supporting vital functions. In the spring 2014 home care of Oulainen received a guide book that had been produced as a part of a thesis. In the guide book, there were instructions for patient’s systematic analyzing using ABCDE-protocol. Our purpose was to support along with the guide book that ABCDE-protocol could take root as a tool of analyzing a patient in the home care. ABCDE-protocol can be used to standardize the reporting of patient’s status and recording. Uniform recording helps to recognize the changes in patient status and it helps to anticipate the possible serious disorders in vital functions. ABCDE-protocol will benefit nurses and patients in the long term. Systematic analyzing of the patient can already add cost-efficiency at the home care by preventing lifelessness and serious disorders in the vital functions. Our thesis was a research in which we studied personnel of the home care of Oulainen and their knowledge in theory for the disorders in vital functions. During the research we searched reliable and confirmed knowledge about disorders and treatments in vital functions. Research were produced by a questionnaire which was accepted by our directors and co-operators. The information gained from the research revealed that personnel of the home care of Oulainen had inadequate and large variety in theoretical knowledge about examining an acutely ill or injured patient. When meeting a patient, familiar use of ABCDE-protocol requires more education and will to improve occupationally. In the future our study could be used for organizing training about using ABCDE-protocol in daily work.
