The thesis was done in three parts. The first part analyzes LTE technology’s evolution to fill requirements of 4G-standard. In the document it is inspected what kind of requirements ITU-R has set to IMT-Advanced specification for 4G technologies and how Release 10 LTE-Advanced could fill these. MIMO and Carrier Aggregation technologies are also looked into.

In the second part of the thesis it is examined how mobile network could be used in Android application. The subjects consisted of layout designing, use of local and external databases and web server communication. Inspiration for the topic came from Mobile Software Development course which was held in Dublin Institute of Technology during an exchange year.

An Android application which communicates with web server was designed and implemented in the last part of the thesis. In the application it is possible to measure surrounding WiFi networks and Bluetooth devices and store the measurements into local and external databases. The application sends measurements to a C++ web server which handles and stores the measurements into three different databases. Technologies used in the software include Java and C++ coding, virtualization of Linux and Docker and communication done using HTTP, IP and TCP-protocols.

The thesis offered different kind of working methods due the diversity of each part. After the literary phase of first and seconds parts the third part mostly consisted of practical work. Thesis taught about different technologies, protocols and structures of systems’.
