In Finland immigration has grown into a big talking point in the news and in the social media these last few years. The world is facing its biggest refugee crisis since the world war two. The year 2015 was exceptional since 32 476 new refugees made their way to Finland. Now because immigration is growing, immigrants come increasingly closer to the lives of the Finnish people.

Our thesis was ordered by Project Manager from Oulu settlement Ry N.Y.T. to give immigrants better knowledge of first aid. Turned out that the immigrants knowledge of first aid and how to get help in Finland were incomplete. Therefore we got confirmation that the first aid day as well as the training of the first aid skills would be important.

The thesis was set to organize a First Aid Day to immigrant students. The goal was to have the participants coact and participate to the information given to them. We ran the First Aid Day-teaching in small groups and it created effective learning situations for the students as it came to learning first aid. The long-term goal was to create a base of first aid for each student witch they can use in the future emergency situations.

The students were genuinely interested of first aid and how to use it in their personal life. Each student had a personal experience of home incidents and. After the first aid day we collected feedback from the immigrants and it told us that the day was a success and each student learned something new. In the future all the participant of the first aid day can exploit their first aid skills as they wish. All so they can teach the first aid skills forward for example to their parents. Vuolle institute can also use the first aid material at teaching new students.
