Good eyesight may improve well-being in the workplace. A well-seeing worker can also be safer, more effective and more productive. Based on this thought, we wanted to organize an event which was later named a vision screening. Our goal was to promote good vision and occupational comfort. We also wanted to develop our skills in meeting a customer. Learning vision screening basics and utilizing them in our upcoming profession would increase our experience for future working life. For our project we hoped for a collaborator who would give us a good basis for organizing an encompassing vision event.

In making the vision screening our aim was to guide people to further examination if needed. Our project was ordered by Silmäasema Fennica LLC and our other co-operative partner was Atria PLC. Our goal in this project was to improve Atria PLC’s employees vision and positively influence their job wellness.

The vision screening included measurement of intraocular pressure by using iCare®-device, autorefraction measurement, eyeglasses in-use measurement by using a lensometer and visual acuity testing by using LeaNumbers-board. We also documented the results and scheduled for a possible follow-up research. We also carried out a feedback survey.

In our project we screened 320 people and 57% of them were adviced to participate in a follow-up research. 65% of the screened people qualified for normal visual acuity at long distances. There were 318 people who answered to our feedback survey and 89% of them gave us a positive feedback. 11% of the screened people had increased intraocular pressure in one or both eyes.

The feedback we got from our project proved that vision screening is a desired and necessary event. In our vision screening, we noticed that the most important investigations were visual acuity test and autorefractometry measurement. We had a critical view on measuring the intraocular pressure. As a whole, we and our co-operation partners are satisfied with the event.
