My thesis is a case-study about the internal communication of an Oulu-based combat sports club, Oulun Kamppailuklubi. The work is commissioned by Oulun Kamppailuklubi, a combat sports club and gym that is currently the biggest combat sports gym in Finland. Starting from just a few practicioners in a small rented training space, the club has experienced rapid growth during the past few years. The expansion of training facilities and the addition of resources have brought many positive effects for the club, but their staff has struggled with keeping up with the growing demand of better and faster interactive communication.

The main goal of my thesis is to map out the current state of organizational communications at Oulun Kamppailuklubi and to find the most important things that need to be improved. I will compare the club’s current ways of communication with the advice of leading Finnish corporate communications experts.

In this thesis, I’m using the work of top Finnish and international communication experts and researchers as reference material. The material includes books by Elisa Juholin, Anssi Siukosaari and Joep Cornelissen, and other related publications.

My most important findings revolve around the impact of having a good communication plan and strategy and the importance of analyzing the degree of success with communication. The next step after this thesis work is to create a new strategic communication plan for Oulun Kamppailuklubi.
