In the 2000s the number of immigrants has increased significantly in Finland. In the next few years nearly 30 000 immigrants have come to Finland every year. This trend means that multiculturalism is increasing in the Finnish society and it has a significant impact on Finnish dental health care. The purpose of our thesis is to describe the connection between culture and dental health care. In this thesis, we focused particularly on Somali and Iranian cultural characteristics in dental health care. We chose multiculturalism for the topic of our thesis because there was only a little discussion about multiculturalism in our degree program. Our thesis was made as a project and as a result we came up with teaching event for other dental hygienist students. The co-operation partner was Oulu University of Applied Science degree pro-gramme in dental health care. We also interviewed three people with muslim backrounds. The interview gave us different views and opinions on Finnish dental health care and possible changes in oral care and diet after they had move to Finland. The interview helped to plan our teaching event. We held the teaching event in April 2017 for second year dental health care students. The aim of our thesis is to add knowledge about multiculturalism to the dental hygienist students of Oulu University of Applied Sciences. As a basis for the teaching event we used reliable sources, our own experiences and the results of the interviews we conducted. We produced an information package in a form of PowerPoint. In addition to the information package we designed five different patient cards with answers. The disposition of them transfers to the teachers of Dental Health Care Degree Programme of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences.
