In the background of the thesis is the author’s own interest and experience in electronic sports. The purpose of the thesis was to research the concept of electronic sports and its visibility.

In the thesis we get to know what electronic sports is and where it all has started. Part of the thesis is to introduce people to the most popular and commonly played games and to tell about electronic sports visibility in media sources.

Sources of the thesis are gathered from many online sites that are focused in electronic sports or from articles from the people involved in the industry. In the thesis things that were supposed to be found out from the research were found and answered.

Development of electronic sports now is wild, and the business and concept are growing all the time, this applies both to Finland and rest of the world. Little by little the more electronic sports are on the spotlight, people start to recognize it as a normal sport.

This thesis could be used as a nice piece of information for new people wanting to get into world of esports and for example for parents that don’t yet know what kids these days see in the games.
