Silmät matkassa mukana : Silmien hyvinvoinnin huomioiminen matkustaessa

The health of the eyes is a major part of human well-being also during travel. Awareness of all possible eye problems and diseases during travel makes it easier and faster to relieve symptoms and to get help for the problems. Thus, the aim of our project was to give travelers more information about possible problems with their eye health. There was no separate commissioner of the thesis, but the idea for the project was born during our exchange studies.

There was no actual information available about travelers’ eye problems and diseases. That is why we decided to gather the most important data on travelers’ eye health and to create a shell guide book together with the Merikoski Pharmacy to help people who travel. Customers can read the guide book or take it with them when visiting the pharmacy. Other social and health care authorities can also use the guide book or the thesis which can be found online.

The implementation of the guide book was one part of our project. To support our project, we familiarized ourselves with several publications about project work. In addition, we collected information about our topic from several foreign and domestic sources, both online and from printed versions. Based on these sources, we assembled the actual end product the guide book.

The book consists of the six main topics which we think are the most essential for travelers. These topics are as follows: dry eyes, allergic reaction and eyes, contact lens use while traveling, UV radiation and last, few rare diseases. On the last page of the book there is a checklist. We used a lot of pictures and figures to visualize the book and to make the layout more interesting. The information is written so that everyone can understand it without previous knowledge of these topics.
