In Oulu there has been formed a tradition to organize an education day for optometrists and students of optometry. This event has welcomed with great joy in Northern Finland, where events like this are rarely organized. Group of graduating students has taken as their task to organize the event as part of their Bachelor thesis. Principal is Oulu University of Applied sciences.

Goal was to create current, useful and practical education day for people working in optic field. Education day was held on April 2018 at Oulu University of Applied Sciences’ Kotkantie facilities. Overall there were participating 101 opticians and 18 optometry students. When counted partners, education day organizers and lecturers overall, number of participants was 151 persons. Some of the partners acted as representatives of their firm in the event. Participants had opportunity to get to know them before lectures and during the break.

Based on our survey, lectures that were selected were dry eye in optician’s work, myopia management, from heterophoria examinations to prism spectacle prescription and pupillary reflex, which also worked as our base of knowledge. Ethic council of optometry granted four update education points of the education day. To evaluate our education day, we asked participants to fill and return the questionnaire form. Questionnaire was formed for evaluate the lectures and success of education day in general.

Based on the feedback we got, education day was successful and there will be demand for this kind of event also in the future in Oulu. The biggest development areas for the future were marketing the event, the number of representatives and availability of lecture notes in time. 97,9% (n=96) of all responders would participate for same kind of event next year.
