Lapin kirjastojärjestelmän vaihtuminen : Kartoitus Kemin kaupunginkirjaston muuttuneista työtehtävistä aineiston vastaanottamisen ja lean-ajattelun näkökulmasta

Kemi City Library joined the Lapin kirjasto network in June 2017. At the same time, Kemi City Library adopted the common library system Koha. As a result, the librarians´ duties faced several changes.

The purpose of this thesis is to find out how the librarians´ duties have changed as a result of the library network and the new library system. I will focus on how their duties have changed concerning material. I will also deal with work efficiency. Lean is a key word in today´s working life and I will discuss the possibilities to organize work to be more efficient. The study was commissioned by Kemi City Library.

As a study method I will use qualitative method by interviewing the librarians in Kemi City Library. They have worked in the library during the previous and the present library system. In addition, I will ask questions concerning education, meetings and the ideas that Lean has given them. As far as I know, in the field of library services prior research concerning Lean is not be found.

The six interviews gave relevant results on how the library network and Koha have changed duties in the library. In Kemi, the idea of Lean has been carried out over the past few years. The interviewees also made some suggestions for the future.

Not only in Kemi, but in the whole field of library services, both the library network and Koha have had an impact on librarians´ duties in Finland. In the future, I hope this research will benefit other libraries in Finland as well as developing the Koha library system.
