The landscape affects the respect of the recreation area. Landscape management tries to preserve the diversity of nature in the area, improve usability of the area and preserve traditional landscapes. The looks of outdoor recreation architecture and usability also have an effect in appreciation of the recreation area.

The purpose of this thesis was to improve the possibility of recreational use of Hailuoto Kirkkosalmi area. The improvements were carried out by planning the landscape management of the area and the renovation plan of the outdoor recreation architecture. The buyer of the thesis was Metsähallitus. The subtext of the thesis covers the creation of landscape management plans for recreation areas and repairing of the outdoor recreation architecture. The background information for the thesis was gathered from literature and the Internet. The thesis included two visits in the area. At the second visit the trees which will be spared were marked with green fiber lace.

As a result, the project yielded a landscape management plan, a general plan for Kirkkosalmi and renovation methods for the outdoor recreation architecture. The plans took notice of among other things the use of the area, location and the variation of the season. The restplace and latrine are placed in their new locations.
