Scoliosis is a chronic illness associated with the structural deformity of the spine and is characterised by the lateral curvature and vertebral rotation of a series of vertebrae in the middle line of the spinal column. The aetiology of scoliosis is still unknown. One treat-ment for scoliosis is brace treatment.

The subject of our bachelor’s thesis was a video about brace treatment for adolescents with scoliosis. The video was produced in co-operation with children’s surgical ward 60, Oulu University Hospital and Oulu University of Applied Sciences. Oulu University Hospital did not have educational video about brace treatment and the surgical ward staff requested a new tool to guide adolescents with scoliosis.

The aim of our project was to produce an educational video about brace treatment for adolescents with scoliosis. The purpose was to produce a video for adolescents and their parents and provide up to date information via multimedia.

Before we could write a screenplay we had to gather information about scoliosis and brace treatment. The most important task was to write a screenplay for the video. The video was filmed in the children’s surgical ward at Oulu University hospital.

The video is informative and logical. It tells about brace treatment and gives answers to adolescents’ questions about scoliosis. In the future one could do a video for scoliosis patients who will have a surgery. One could also update our video for kids and their parents.
