The aim of my thesis is to learn how to apply the visual rules of the usability into practise. I study the usability of web design by first learning about the theory of typography and color psychology. Lastly, by studying different kinds of sources and interviewing web marketing professionals I deepen into the most important subject, the usability itself.

The starting point for my thesis is my production I made for Bythjul, a Swedish tires and rims selling online company. The aim of my production was to create new up to date web page lay outs the principal improvement being the website usability and the emphasis of the Bythjul company image. To fulfill my thesis with theory I want to concentrate in the visual design from the usability´s point of view.

Online stores become more and more common these days, and competitors on the branch increase. The most important way for an online store to meet the customer is the website, and the company needs to concentrate in the usability which means that the website is easy to use for the customer. The website also needs to have the company feeling, and stand out of the mass. Functional web sites result satisfied customers and high sales.
