The aim of this thesis is to create a flower farm called Kukkatila Onnenlehto located in the Rovaniemi area a modern agritourism company, combining eco-tourism, organic farming as well as active holidays. The idea of the thesis was born the need to develop the farm operation. New business has also a pressing need, because the area of less than 10 hectares of arable land alone is not enough to achieve a living wage. Traditional agriculture ancillary enterprises such as machine contracting is ruled out, since the region has a lot specialized professionals who work in that field and the competition is tough.

Thus, revenues need to be able to form by other ways that the continuation of the farm would be economically feasible and sensible. Agritourism is a potential development direction to safeguard the future of the farm, as the tourism industry grows and offers great opportunities now and in the future, agritourism has also grown steadily in popularity in Finland, and it forms the primary economic resource for many farms already. Yläkemijoki, the area of the thesis where the property is located in has still little farm tourism.
