The purpose of this thesis was to design and construct self-reliant website to Evelace Boutique, a small lingerie store in Oulu. After constructing the website, the site was search engine optimized to add visibility to the client’s store. This report concentrates on how search engines work, the different methods of search engine optimization, useful tools found from the web and execution of the search engine optimization itself. Goal of this thesis was to build easy-to-use website for the client, and for the website to show up on the first page on Google search results on relevant keywords.

The website constructed in this thesis was made using WordPress content management system. Analyzing tools such as Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools and WooRank were used to follow the progress of search engine optimization and to see how it affects the website’s traffic. These tools were also used to study keyword efficiency on the site, and the given data was used to edit the content to improve keyword consistency.

As the result of this thesis Evelace Boutique now has its own autonomous website, which meets the initially set requirements. Search engine optimization taught thesis workers much about the process and the importance of search engine optimization. The process pointed out, as expected, that better standing in the search results ensures higher amount of visitors on the website.
