Finland’s population ages continuously. Capability to see in traffic becomes more difficult with age. When people get older the amount of eye diseases increase. We found seeing in traffic of presbyopic people a really interesting and current topic because of the aging demographic structure. As specialists of health care and vision we found this subject very important and it should be paid more attention to both individual and societal levels in the future.

An output of our thesis was a training session. Our main goal was to plan and arrange a training session about traffic vision to adult sighted people. We also planned a Power Point presentation for the training session and created an informative material package. The topics were chosen based on current issues and opinions of our colleagues. The training session was arranged in co-operation with company which arranges trainings for professional drivers. The training session was held in Southern Finland.

The aim of our training session was to give the audience up-to-date information about the requirements of traffic vision. We also wanted the target group to become aware of their own vision and its possible defects. It is difficult to realize when one’s own vision slowly decreases. Therefore we wanted to pay attention to that by telling the audience about the most common eye diseases and their symptoms. We hope that as a result of the training session the audience realized how important it is to take care of their vision and seeing in traffic. With our training package we also hope to improve road safety.

We gathered feedback on the interest and effectiveness of the training session with a paper form questionnaire. According to feedback of the respondents the training session was successful and the topics were experienced as useful and important.
