As our thesis we organized an updating education day for opticians and optometry students. There are only few updating education events in Northern Finland and they mostly take place in Southern Finland. Therefore we wanted to bring an education day closer to the opticians in Northern area. Our goal was to support the professional development of the participants by providing current and professional information.

The education day took place at hotel Radisson Blu Oulu on 9th of May 2015. 99 optometrists and 10 optometry students attended the education day. Participants came from all over the country. There were also five displayers from optical field presenting their products and services.

The theme of our education day was working-aged people’s vision. Everyone aged 15–74 are defined as working-aged and thus this age group creates the biggest part of opticians’ clients. The education day included four lectures held by four optical field professionals. The lecture subjects were narrowed to include the most common eye diseases and some of the vision options for working-age population.

At the end of the education day we asked the participants to fill a questionnaire to give their opinion of the arrangements and lectures. The feedback was mostly positive and we found that the opticians and the optometry students were interested in participating this kind of event again.
