Purchasing the progressive lenses may be a difficult task for many individuals. There is a large range of different kind of lenses and sometimes it is hard for a customer to understand what the differences between different types of lenses are. The customer doesn’t always have enough knowledge about the structure and function of progressive lenses.

Our aim was to produce an objective guide that wasn’t about any particular lens design. The guide was also planned to be articulate without any difficult professional language so that a normal customer can understand it.

The layout of the guide was designed by the public relations services of Oulu University of Applied Sciences. The guide was tested by the personnel of social services and health care of Oulu University of Applied Sciences. It was available in the personnel’s intranet for a week. There was a short inquiry of the guide including a free comment section. All answers were collected anonymously.

The guide includes information about the aging eye phenomena and why the customer needs progressive glasses. It also has information about the structure and functioning of progressive lenses as well as how to get used to wearing progressive lenses. Information about different types of coatings and refractive index is also given. The guide also includes a brief glance to why progressive lenses cost so much and why there are sometimes big differences in price between different kinds of lenses.

The guide helps the customers to understand the aging eye phenomena and also the structure of the progressive lenses. Testers also said that the guide is easy to understand and it would be helpful while purchasing the progressive lenses.
