According to studies made in United states the most common reason causing wounds in the age over 65 is falling. Because of the ageing and different kind of diseases in the population, wounds are becoming more common issue in nursing and health care.

The purpose of this thesis was to make a wound care guide that is based on the newest studies. We used references from the internet, professional magazines such as Wound Care Association's monthly magazine, school books and other teaching materials. The right kind of wound care is an important part of the nursing and health care and to support that we wanted to make a reliable guide.

The outcomes of this thesis were a clearly made wound care guide and a lecture based on the guide. The pictures we used in our guide were self-taken and displayed with a color classification to help the workers make a quick search about the wound they're about to treat. The guide contains guidelines about the procedures nurses need to take care of before treating the wound, what to observe from the wound, what product is good for which wound type and how to document the wound care.

We got good feedback from the service home workers about the guide and the way it’s made. Especially the pictures and the instructions to care the wound were clear. This guide was ordered by two private social- and health care firms, Seviset Oy and Caritas. Seviset Oy wanted their guide to be electronic and Caritas wanted a laminated guide, so that they could display it on the wall. The aim of this thesis and guide was to teach the personnel working in the firm how to treat the wounds properly and integrate the way nurses treat the wounds.
