Polytechnic act obligates Polytechnics to ensure the quality of education and other operations organized. Student involvement on enhancement of operations of Polytechnics is stated on both Polytechnic act and Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area. According to Polytechnic act Polytechnics must take part on external evaluations on regulatory bases and publish the results of evaluation. For the external evaluations of higher education institutions independent Finnish higher education evaluation council is based online with Ministry of education and culture.

Thesis is mandatored by Oulu University of Applied Sciences and purpose of the thesis is to find best practices to assist student involvement on enhacement of operations of institution. Principal method of the thesis is to describe practices of Oulu University of Applied Sciences to involve students and compare them to other Finnish and foreign higher education institutions. Influences of the Bologna Process on quality assurance of higher education institutions are described as a framework of thesis. Special attention is minded to student involvement on quality assurance.

Quality assurance system of Oulu University of Applied Sciences pays attention to student in- volvement mainly satisfyingly. Feedback from students is collected diversily and students are encouraged to give feedback. In addition students are represented in different focus-groups on development of institution and the student union is activily involved in enhancement processes. Thesis presents recommendations for Oulu University of Applied Sciences to improve student involvement. By enforcing the recommendations Oulu University of Applied Sciences can en- hance student involvement further.
