Kainuu’s work-related immigration policies are a regional focusing of national immigration programmes. Regionally, Kainuu’s work-related immigration policies are linked to the provincial programme drawn up by the Joint Authority of the Kainuu Region and Northern Ostrobothnia’s immigration strategy. Kainuu and Northern Ostrobothnia have a common immigration manager and an immigration committee.

The common objective of immigration operators, as well as the main concept of the policies, is to view immigration as a part of a positive demographic development in Kainuu. The objective of the working group preparing the policies has been to formulate strategic work-related immigration policies from local staring points that suit work-related immigration in Kainuu. The purpose of the policies is to form the basis for all immigration work in Kainuu; they represent the views of Kainuu-based immigration operators related to the direction that work-related immigration should take in Kainuu.

Kainuu’s work-related immigration policies are being implemented as a part of the International Workforce Project administered by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Kainuu. The European Social Fund is financing the project.
