Abstract This publication consists of the eight papers presented at the XVI Conference of Translation Studies (XVI Kääntämisentutkimuksen päivät), hosted by the Nordic Philology unit of the Department of German, French and Scandinavian Languages, University of Oulu.

The contributors came from the Department of Scandinavian Languages and Literature (University of Helsinki) and the Department of German, French and Scandinavian Languages (University of Oulu). Most focus on theoretical and practical problems in translating. The conference plenary paper, which deals with translator training in the European Unity, was presented by a lecturer of The European Commission Representation in Finland.
