Educational congress for opticians is a traditional event held in Oulu. The event was organized as a part of our thesis and is one of the very few events organized in Northern Finland where opticians and optometrists can achieve their educational points. Due to this, many people in Northern Finland are eagerly waiting for the event to be organized annually. Oulu University of Applied Sciences acted as the principal of this project.

The event was held in Original Sokos Hotel Arina Conference facilities on the 4th floor of Valkea on Saturday 13th of April in 2019. 121 opticians and optometrists and 30 optometrist students signed up for the day. When adding the amount of our lecturers, cooperation partners and organizers we got a total of 179 participants. The day consisted of four one-hour long lectures which included 10 minutes for audience questions. Dinner and coffee break were held between the lectures during which the event attenders also had extra time to explore the exhibitors stands.

Our aim was to carry out functional yet cozy event. We also strived to succeed in choosing current, topical and interesting lecture topics which gives our attenders new information and useful knowledge. We estimated the success of our event by asking feedback from our quests. The results were positive: participants learned something new and the event itself was pleasant.

Proper planning and designing in advance played an integral part in project working. This project gave us a very good readiness for our future tasks and useful skills for working as project planners. At the same time, we created new contacts and connections with people who work in our field. Our thesis also offered us a way to learn more about marketing, organizing, teamworking, project managing and budgeting.
