The competition in the optical field has grown strongly in recent years. New business chains have increased competition in the industry. Optician’s work has become more and more commercialized. For this reason, entrepreneurial orien-tation is useful for everyone in the business.

Our aim is to describe and highlight the experiences of optician entrepreneur’s in their work. Our study is qualitative. We interviewed three entrepreneur opti-cians. We used interview as our data collecting method, which is particularly suitable for describing someone’s experiences and thoughts. In the theoretical framework we describe optician training and related entrepreneurial studies, as well as starting a business and an entrepreneur running their own company.

The results showed that the entrepreneurs had many reasons for starting their own company. In particular, entrepreneurship brought independence and deci-sion-making powers were appreciated. Motives for entrepreneurship responded to previous studies and our theoretical framework. An entrepreneur's work was seen as responsible and rewarding. In particular, the marketing was held as part of the entrepreneur's most challenging work.
