I have worked as a children’s dance teacher for nearly 10 years in different dance schools and associations. During my career I have come across many different kind of dancers, parents and dance schools. Children’s dance as term is in broad use and children’s dance is taught from various base lines. In the last few decades Finland has been most influenced by creative dance approach to children’s dance teaching.

My thesis is a pre-research for Oulu University of Applied Sciences children’s dance instructor training project. The project that carries the working title of KiddieJam will teach children’s dance from a technical point of view and it includes different kind of dance forms. In my research I investigate the need for this kind of a instructor training and study the things that have an essential influence on children’s dance teaching.

I study children’s physical and mental abilities in different ages and also their ways of learning. I write down and develop the concept’s structure and ideology based on conversations of the working team. I also make the basis for the first version of Instructor’s ABC -leaflet, that will be given for all participants of the training.
