The aim of this thesis was to produce a guide on caries, gingivitis and periodontitis for patient guidance and as educational material for schools for example. Our purpose was to produce a versatile and functional guide that provides additional information about the oral diseases in question and their treatment. The work was implemented as a Powerpoint presentation, which has also been converted to PDF file format. The material is intended for everyone and is freely available.

The purpose of the thesis was to increase awareness of these common oral diseases. The guide deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. We also wanted to highlight the connection between general health and oral diseases. The aim of the guide is to serve as an information package that is easy to use in connection with patient visits or as learning material in health information classes. Our goal was to produce a clear and visually interesting guide for the target group. Our learning material is based on domestic and foreign expert sources.

We started working on our thesis in the fall of 2022, when we started with making a plan, from which we moved on to making a guide in the fall of 2023. We got the idea for the guide from a member of our group and together we have edited it into a final result.

We received feedback on the guide throughout the process from our guiding teachers. The feedback received during the process helped to shape the idea into a functional final product. With the help of the Webropol survey, we collected feedback on the content and layout of our guide from the social and health students of Oulu University of Applied Sciences. Based on the feedback, the guide was felt to be a useful and instructive entity.
