This thesis describes the psychosocial support in foster care from the perspective of adolescents participation and interaction. The aim was to provide a compilation for child protection professionals based on researched information about the psychosocial support of children and adolescents in foster care.

The theoretical basis of the thesis consists of opening up the meaning of foster care and defining the concepts of participation and interaction as a form of psychosocial support. The thesis is a qualitative study and the research method chosen is a descriptive literature review. The research material consists of two reports in Finnish and two studies in English which were analyzed by using a data-driven content analysis.

According to the results psychosocial support in child protection services is dialogue between adolescents and adults working in CPS. It is a part of upbringing in foster care and fulfilling the basic needs of adolescents. It is also conveying a sense of security to adolescents in foster care. Further research on the subject could be carried out, for example from the perspective of work with families.
