The aim of this study was to facilitate the installation of virtual machines in the Oulu University of Applied Sciences Information Technology Departments System Support Laboratory, when there is need to create virtual machines fast for courses.

Virtualization has been the most prominent IT trend in recent years. Virtualization improves the utilization rate of physical devices, accelerate their deployments, save space in the server room, lowers power consumption and speed up error recovery.

This thesis designed and implemented Microsoft Powershell-script that creates Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines for students and allows remote access to them.

The thesis examined virtualization, PowerShell and Hyper-V virtualization environment and went through the Microsoft Server 2012 R2 features.

This thesis showed that PowerShell speed up creation of multiple virtual machines significantly.
