At Valvira's point of view opticians and ophthalmologist should come up with new solutions and operational models to serve patients and people the best way possible. Our thesis is part of Oulu Kontinkangas Wellness Centres development program and continuation to Ryymin's and Viiperi's thesis "Kohti näönhuollon moniammatillista yhteistyötä: Haastattelututkimus optikoille ja silmälääkäreille" made in 2015.

The purpose of this thesis was to find out if there is need to set up collaboration between optician students and doctor students during their studies. In addition, we contemplated operating plans how to possible accomplish the collaboration.

We organized meeting between couple of lecturers of Oulu University of Applied Sciences and couple of clinical ophthalmology teachers of Oulu University Faculty of Medicine. At the meeting we cogitated ways to accomplish the collaboration between optician students and doctor students. We also made a qualitative study accomplished by theme-based electronic interview. Our group of examinees consisted clinical ophthalmology teachers of Oulu University and lecturers of Oulu University of Applied Sciences. At the study, we examined their thoughts about collaboration and how to accomplish it.

Study results revealed that the clinical ophthalmology teachers thought that there is no necessity to the collaboration and they are not willing to accomplish it during optician and doctor student’s studies. In the other hand a lecturer of Oulu University of Applied Sciences thought that there is need for collaboration and it could be accomplished during studies.

Clinical ophthalmology teachers thought that there is no need for the collaboration, and that is why the collaboration between optician students and doctor students in near future does not seem to happen. Studies about different ways to accomplish collaboration in the primary health care could be made.
