Lungs auscultation is one of the basic examinations for nursing staff. It is a primary examination technique for assessing patient’s shortness of breathing. With the right auscultation technique it is possible to distinquish a differing finding from the normal. This educational video was produced along with the thesis. Oulu University of Applied Sciences served as the subscriber of the video.

The goal of this thesis was to produce an educational video, which illustrates proper listening technique of lungs. Furthermore, equipment needed in the listening of lungs, listening conditions and possible findings are dealt with the video. This video is intended for students and professionals of the public health care. The video has been made as project work.

Literature, which is based on examined information, has been used as data base in this video. The textbooks of an anatomy and physiology and the literature, which deals with the examining of the patient, have been used as literature sources. The sources which are related to filming and editing are from the Internet.

The educational video was presented to final year nursing students. They were asked to estimate the quality of the video and give a final grade to it. On the basis of the feedback some changes were made. After these changes the quality aims were reached.

Adding of breathing voices to the video and clearer emphasizing of strengthened inhalation and expiration could be a few of the development ideas of the video. It could also show more examining of the patient's breathing. A soundtrack in English and Swedish could be one target for development.
