In Finland, the state of well-being at work has not returned to the pre-pandemic figures, which suggests that organizations should pay special attention to well-being at work. The aim of the thesis was to understand the effects of cognitive ergonomics on work well-being from the point of view of the employees of one branch of the organization. The research also wanted to find out the current state of cognitive ergonomics and occupational well-being from the point of view of employees at the location, and to identify areas for development in this regard.

In the theoretical reference framework of the thesis, we learn about well-being, well-being at work and its sub-areas, as well as different models of well-being at work. At the end of this theory section, the work well-being disk is presented, which is a summary of the work well-being models reviewed above. Another main topic in the theory is cognitive ergonomics, its load factors and cognitive ergonomics as part of occupational well-being.

The empirical research part of the thesis was carried out as a qualitative study using the case study approach. The research material was acquired through semi-structured theme interviews, which were carried out in the Teams -application as individual interviews. The data was analyzed using theory-based content analysis. The material was reduced, encoded, and themed, after which the results of the study were written open.

In the study, an essential result emerged that cognitive ergonomics affects work well-being through cognitive load and the resulting consequences. The load is seasonal and experiencing the load is individual. The current status of the organization's cognitive ergonomics and work well-being is good, although a few areas for development emerged from the results of the study. Development targets were in office premises, rewards, systems, internal communication, and information sharing. In the conclusions, the results were reflected in the research theory and essential similarities and differences were reviewed. In the reflection, the research's reliability, validity and issues affecting them were reviewed. This section also discussed the success of the research and topics for further research.
