Osteoarthritis of the knee is the most common cause of knee pain in adults, especially in older people. Osteoarthritis of the hip or knee, which restricts mobility and causes disability, is also an economic burden for society. Often the pain and stiffness of the joint caused by osteoarthritis makes it difficult to function. Ability of functioning is defined as the physical, mental and social ability to cope with the activities of daily living such as work, study, leisure and hobbies, as well as the ability to care for oneself and others in one's living environment. As the disease progresses, pain may be felt constantly and may interfere with sleep. In addition, when it is intractable, it often limits mobility and energy, interferes with social life and daily activities. There is no cure for osteoarthritis and drug treatment has been found to only relieve symptoms, so it is important to explore further conservative options.

The purpose of the thesis was to find out and describe the results of the MDT (McKenzie) method in physiotherapy of knee osteoarthritis from published studies. The thesis was a descriptive literature review. The data was sourced from key databases in the field. I pruned the data based on inference and quality criteria. Based on the search terms, a total of 919 articles were found, of which two international research articles remained to be analysed during the search process.

Based on the results of the studies discussed in the review, it can be concluded that MDT method can have a pain reducing and physical function improving effect on patients with knee osteoarthritis. The results of the study suggest that the MDT method would benefit from further research in the short and long term, as the method has shown potential efficacy as a conservative option for physiotherapy of knee osteoarthritis and the classification of the method has shown clarity and reliability.
