The subject of the work was study on electrical machines relative to the ATEX directive. The goal was to define the standards guiding the design and certification of these machines, the factors to be taken into account in the design process of these machines, and applying for the actual certification.

The manufacturing of electric motors was studied at one manufacturer, and the work was done with the company’s specific design in mind. The result of the work is an information package about the standards and requirements concerning electrical machines and about the certification and the instances in Finland offering it.
