The option of Digital Services in the degree programme of Business Information Systems was two-year education which was carried out in a form of retraining and upgrading of qualifications. This retraining and upgrading of qualifications was carried out as web-based studies in the network education environment. The organizer of the education and the corresponding teachers wanted to have current information related to the implementation of studies as a relatively new way of studying. With online training one must obtain results, which satisfy both students, labor markets and the organizer of the training education. In addition, the influence of digitalization on the changing of the professional field requires real-time user data from the training. The commissioner of this thesis was the corresponding teachers of the group TIK16KMD who study in the study programme of Business Information Systems. In the thesis information on the online studies of the group was gathered. Furthermore, positive issues and targets for development were surveyed through the student's experiences about the training. In the study an attempt was made to answer a question how the online teaching of the retraining and upgrading of qualifications and the implementation of studies have succeeded from the student's point of view. Furthermore, the role of study counselling was discussed in the studies. The theoretical background consisted of sources related to data processing, learning and online learning. The effect of digitalization on traditional concept of work and on the service models were described from the future viewpoint. The study was conducted by using qualitative study in a form of theme interviews which were made with a discretionary sampling from the students of the TIK16KMD group. The course materials of the qualitative study were used as a collection of data. With the digitalization and learning the most recent online materials were utilized. The retraining and upgrading of qualifications in the degree programme of Business Information Systems was designed as a tight study package in which the professional skills developed gradually. The workload of parallel courses was considerable; therefore, the progress often brought the best result according to the curriculum. The amount of AC sessions per course was low. The network connections operated well. The AC-lecture recordings and additional material in Moodle served well for purposes of self-studying. At best the online student team projects were an excellent way of peer learning and learning together. Instead the contribution of AC teamwork remained insufficient due to the short time spent for teamwork. It was stated that teaching was at a good level and the interaction worked well during the online lectures. Study counselling proved to be a good way of sharing information and when clarifying student-specific study matters. When studying independently study counselling seemed to have an effect that "smooths the road".
